PPO (Preferred Provider Organization)

Under a PPO plan, you do not need to choose a primary care physician. You can obtain health care from any doctor within the plan’s network without prior authorization from the plan.  Each PPO plan has its own network of doctors, hospitals, and other health care providers. Nevertheless, you can also use out-of-network providers for covered services. If you do, it will usually be at a higher cost.  Check with the plan for more information.

Most PPO plans include drug coverage. If you need drug coverage, be sure to join a PPO plan that includes drug coverage. Check with the plan for more information.

PPO plans are like Original Medicare, but are not the same as Original Medicare. PPO plans usually offer benefits over and above what Original Medicare offers. Those extra benefits could come at an extra charge. Check with your plan for more information.
