Part B (Medical Insurance)

Prosthetic/orthotic

When ordered by a doctor or other health care provider, Medicare will cover artificial limbs, artificial eyes, neck, back, leg, and arm braces. Certain types of breast prostheses and prosthetic devices are also covered.

 

Pulmonary rehabilitation

Individuals with moderate to severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease may participate in an all-inclusive pulmonary rehabilitation program if referred by the doctor treating the disease.

 

Second surgical opinion

Second and third non-emergency surgical opinions are covered by Medicare Part B.

 

Sexually transmitted infection (STI) screening and counseling

When ordered by a primary care doctor (pcp) or other primary care practitioner, high risk individuals and pregnant women may receive screenings for Hepatitis B, gonorrhea, chlamydia, and syphilis once every 12 months. Pregnant women may receive it more often.

 

Urgent care

Sudden illnesses and injuries which are not emergencies may be treated in an urgent care environment.

 

Medicare covers urgently needed care to treat sudden illnesses or injuries which are categorized as emergencies.
