Part B (Medical Insurance)
Mental health care
Mental health includes conditions such as anxiety and depression. Treatment for this type of conditions is normally provided in a doctor’s office or hospital. Visits with a psychiatric, nurse, psychologists, clinical nurse specialist, social worker and other health care provider are covered. This type of treatment is usually received in an outpatient setting.
Note: Inpatient mental health care is covered under Part A
Obesity screening
Medicare covers face-to-face individual behavioral therapy sessions to help you lose weight if you have a body mass index (BMI) or 30 or more. This counseling may be covered if you obtain it in a primary care setting where it can be coordinated with you other care and a personalized prevention plan.
Occupational therapy
When certified by a doctor or other health care provider, Medicare will cover assessment and treatment in order that you are able to perform basic activities of daily living such as dressing, bathing, eating, etc…
Physical Therapy
Physical therapy is covered by Medicare Part B when your doctor or other health care provider certifies your need for it.
Prescription drugs
Most prescription drugs are covered under Medicare Part D. However, Medicare Part B does cover some drugs which are administered in a doctor’s office such as injections. Certain drugs that you receive as an outpatient are also covered.
Prostate cancer screening
For men over 50, Medicare will cover a Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) test and a digital rectal exam once every 12 months.
