Hepatitis B shots and Hepatitis C screenings
If you have hemophilia, diabetes, or End-Stage Renal Disease you are at medium to high risk for hepatitis B. For you, Medicare Part B will cover these shots.
Hepatitis C screenings are covered if any of the following apply to you:
You currently practice illicit injection drug use or have a past history of it
You received a blood transfusion before 1992.
Your year birth is between 1945-1965
A primary care physician or primary care provide must order the screening in order for it to be covered by Medicare.
Everyone else may receive one HIV screening every 12 months.
Kidney dialysis services and supplies
Individuals with End-Stage Renal Disease may receive up to three dialysis sessions per week. Related ESRD drugs and biologicals are covered, as well as home dialysis training, equipment and supplies, laboratory services and support services. If you have Stage 4 chronic kidney disease, you may receive up to six sessions of educational services. Your doctor or other health care provider must refer you to the service.
Certain lab services like urinalysis, tests on tissue specimens, certain screenings and certain blood tests are covered by Medicare part B.
Lung cancer screening
Lung cancer screenings are covered if you are age 55-77, you are asymptomatic, you’re a current smoker or have quit smoking within the last 15 years, you have a tobacco smoking history of at least one pack a day for the last 30 years, and you get a written order from a physician or qualified non-physician practitioner.
