Not Covered By Part A or B

There are services which are not covered under Part A or Part B. Such services, if obtained, must be covered by you. If you have original Medicare, a supplemental plan will help with those costs. A Medicare Advantage Plan is also a good option.

Depending on your overall coverage, you may have to pay deductibles, coinsurance, and/or copayments.

The following are not covered under Original Medicare, but may be covered under other plan/s:

  • Dental care, including dentures

  • Eye examinations for the purpose of prescribing eye-glasses

  • Hearing exams for the purpose of hearing aids including fitting them

  • Acupuncture

  • Long-term care

  • Direct care

People with a chronic illness or disability may need long-term care. Long term care is non-medical care such as personal care assistance and help with everyday living activities. Living activities include but are not limited to bathing, dressing, eating, and using the bathroom. This type of care is often referred to as custodial care and it is not covered by Original Medicare or Medicare supplement plans. Standalone long-term care policies are available. If you are not able to afford a long-term care policy, you may obtain it through Medicaid if you qualify. It is wise to plan for long-term care before you need it. Long term care is usually provided at home, in a nursing home, community, or assisted living facility.
